DEEP BLUE SEA (Theatrical Release USA 1999)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.6|5.0 Starsììì

Deep Blue Sea
is supposed to be an action/thriller, but performs at a subpar level partially because any shark movie after Jaws seems to fall short of that original shark thriller. The dialogue feels like ‘I’ve heard this before’ and the script does not seem to flow well. It is all action and little storyline. Watch for Thomas Jane from The Punisher in this movie. LL Cool J and Samuel L. Jackson are also cast in the film which gives it a solidness that it may have lacked otherwise.

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Maybe. The actors: Thomas Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J, Stellen Skargård, Aida Turturro, and the legendary Frank Welker perform very well together and are a pleasure to see.
