Pete’s Dragon brilliantly supersedes the original 1977 Pete’s Dragon in quality and entertainment value. The script is more sophisticated, the animation better; the film flows. Director David Lowery shows high potential for directing children’s films. He pulls the emotional essence to the forefront and makes us feel the human element. The dragon has a makeover in this film and becomes a much more realistic rendition of how a dragon should look. Karl Urban makes an impressive, distinctive appearance in the role of Gavin Magary. Outstanding performance by Bryce Dallas Howard in this film. Watch for Robert Redford.

Young Pete (Oakes Fegley) survives a deadly automobile accident and comes under the care of a friendly dragon living in the forest.

Additional Thanks

Thank you to Director David Lowery for his directing efforts. Thank you to Executive Producer Barrie M. Osborne for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), Meacham (Robert Redford), Natalie (Oona Laurence), Jack (Wes Bentley), Gavin (Karl Urban), Sheriff Gene Dentler (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.), Woodrow (Marcus Henderson), and Abner (Aaron Jackson).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Yes. It’s not going to be on a favorite film list, but it is one of the best remakes of a former film that I have seen.
