SNAKE EYES (1998 USA)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.6|5.0 Starsììì

Snake Eyes features Nicholas Cage in what should have been a completely winning role for him. But, the film starts with Cage as overly confident in his character and the over-the-top, almost Jim Carrey-like interpretation of his character undermines the rest of the scenes required to portray the storyline. The movie does not flow so that predictability and tedium set in at times.

Storyline

Rick Santoro (Nicolas Cage), a corrupt police detective, becomes involved in a thrown boxing match, murder, corruption in other law enforcement officials, and political assassination.

Additional Thanks

Thank you to Director Brian De Palma for directing effort. Thank you to Executive Producer Louis A. Stroller for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Commander Kevin Dunne (Gary Sinise), Gilbert Powell (John Heard), Julia Costello (Carla Gugino), Lincoln Tyler (Stan Shaw), Lou Logan (Kkevin Dunn), Jimmy George (Michael Rispoli), Charles Kirkland (Joel Fabiani), Cyrus (Luis Guzman), and Ned Campbell (David Anthony Higgins).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Maybe. It’s insightful to see how this story plays out; but, there are better police movies with higher entertainment value such as L.A. Confidential.
