BECOMING CARY GRANT (Cannes Film Festival, Cannes ,France 2017)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.4|5.0 Starsìììì

Becoming Cary Grant,
when one is born Archibald Alec Leach, is a documentary that easily earns its watch. The documentary delves shallowly into Grant’s early family life and focuses more on his marital relationships, his mental conditions, and his professional career. The documentary has a somber tone shadowed with a little darkness that does not seem to support the Cary Grant who audiences know onscreen. But, it is precisely that mixture that makes the film worth a watch. Great work for Director Mark Kidel. This light documentary can easily be watched while accomplishing other tasks.

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Yes. Despite the superficiality of the documentary, it does provide a glimpse into Cary Grant’s life both inside and outside his professional life. Be aware that information is fairly limited and does not widely or deeply cover this movie star’s life.
