THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (2009 USA)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.0|5.0 Starsììì

The Princess and the Frog is a movie that tries, but fails. It starts like a classic Disney movie and begins going downhill after Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) buys a new restaurant. The movie seems blunt, without flow, and progresses to ho-hum boredom. It fails to capture the human spirit filled with heartfelt desire and cannot compare to movies such as The Lion King or Aladdin. The Princess and the Frog script sadly tries to recoup itself at the end, but again fails to capture that special essence that declares Disney’s signature movies.

Storyline

Tiana (voice of Anika Noni Rose) desires to open her own restaurant, but before that becomes a reality she faces a host of adventures that brings her more than she expected.

Additional Thanks

Thank you to Directors Ron Clements and John Musker for directing efforts. Thank you to Executive Producers Ahgi D. Koh and John Lasseter for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Prince Naveen (voice of Bruno Campos), Dr. Facilier (voice of Keith David), Louis (voice of Michael-Leon Wooley), Charlotte La Bouff (voice of Jennifer Cody), Ray (voice of Jim Cummings), Lawrence (voice of Peter Bartlett), Mama Odie (voice of Jenifer Lewis), and Eudora (voice of Oprah Winfrey).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Maybe. Directors/Writers Ron Clements and John Musker and Writer Rob Edwards did not have the full Disney vision for this movie.
