SLEEPY HOLLOW (Theatrical Release USA 1999)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.5|5.0 Starsììì

Sleepy Hollow
—good concept—lacks coherency and timing in telling its story well. Confusing at times due to the lack of adequate explanation of story characters’ relationships.

Storyline

Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is sent, by the order of the government, to investigate a headless horseman who is killing residents in Sleepy Hollow, New York. He meets with Sleepy Hollow residents, befriends a boy named Young Masbeth (Marc Pickering), contacts a sorceress, finds the headless horseman’s grave, and sends him back where he came from.

Additional Thanks

Good Work for Director Tim Burton. Thank you to Executive Producers Francis Ford Coppola and Larry J. Franco for making the film possible. Additional characters/cast include: Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci), Lady Van Tassel/Crone (Miranda Richardson), Baltus Van Tassel (Michael Gambon), Brom Van Brunt (Casper Van Dien), Reverend Steenwyck (Jeffrey Jones), and Magistrate Philipse (Richard Griffiths).

Buy a ticket? Yes? No? Maybe?

Maybe. There are better Tim Burton films to choose from: Edward Scissorhands or Corpse Bride. Johnny Depp? Not at his best in this film.
