It is interesting to see this interpretation of an old tale, but it does not compare well with the quality of the original animated mermaid story in any area.  Seven Brides for Seven Brothers—great music—has a realistic and believable story that more than lends itself to watching and adding to the home video library. Howard Keel, Jane Powell, and Russ Tamblyn are great actors for this film. This film is fresh, creative, and rich...do Not miss this movie, This is what we go to movies to see. He accomplishes his goal but fails to tell his new wife that he has six brothers at home that need cooking, house cleaning, and laundry done. This is a wonderful film with original, powerful, and good music and tells a timeless, thoughtfully written story. No surprise scenes here...tastefully written to describe male/female interaction.
