HIROSHIMA: OUT OF THE ASHES (Released to Television USA 1990)

 

Ben Meyers’ Rating: 4.1|5.0 Starsìììì  Hiroshima: Out of  the Ashes—television film—works at a higher level of quality than many television movies. This story gives a look at the other side of the mirror of the Hiroshima story and the aftermath. It does not finish the story suggesting there is more but not showing the more. Be aware that the death scenes and lingering life scenes are vivid and horrific.  Watch for some of our best actors...Pat Morita from the Karate Kid movie series, Max Von Sydow, and Mako in the cast. Ben Meyers’ Rating: 3.8|5.0 Starsììì Gremlins 2: the New Batch—suitable, afternoon watch—has a little horror mixed with a little comedy. Be entertained by outstandingly slimy monsters with mouths full of quite sharp teeth. Watch for cameo appearances of movie critic Leonard Maltin and wrestler Hulk Hogan. DANCES WITH WOLVES (Released to Theaters USA 1990)

 

Ben Meyers’ Rating: 4.2|5.0 Starsìììì  Dances with Wolves—gemstone quality—has WOW! writing that is respectful of native nations and works deeply into how friends are made when there has been no trust established for hundreds of years between cultures. The movie is a treat. There is adult content, but besides that this film is a terrific film directed by Director Kevin Costner. DUCKTALES THE MOVIE: TREASURE OF THE LOST LAMP (Theatrical Release USA 1990)

DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp—aged animation technique—shows a cute and very watchable version of the Ali Baba (called Collie Baba in this film) treasure story. This entertainment piece supports itself with well-chosen voice casting. Good work for all involved.

This animated comedy adventure film is about: Scrooge McDuck, a treasure map, and a lost treasure.

THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER (Theatrical Release USA 1990)

 Ben Meyers’ Rating: 3.9|5.0 Starsììì 

The Rescuers Down Under rehashes the previous Rescuers movie with new scenery, new bad guy while reprising the voices of Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor for continuity. The audience connectivity to the original story is lacking in this performance due to that rehash. It is a suitable watch and has great animation.
