COWBOYS & ALIENS (Theatrical Release USA 2011)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.1|5.0 Starsìììì

Cowboys & Aliens, great film from Director Jon Favreau (Director of Chef, Iron Man 1 and 2, and Elf), is no exception to other great films Favreau has directed. Daniel Craig lends his talent to this movie and greatly adds to its basic entertainment value. Paul Dano is perfectly cast here. Harrison Ford seems a bit mis-cast but performs well. Watch for a performance by Adam Beach. The movie has an unusual mix of storyline that follows the title of the film. The story is well written and portrayed. Worth watching. Good work for all involved.

Never Stop Dreaming: The Life and Legacy of Shimon Peres—wonderful documentary—tells a full story of Szymon Perski, later known as Shimon Peres. The movie is completely rewatchable and shows remarkable attention to detail within its over 2-hour presentation. The story is thorough and documents both the ups and downs of a life well-lived. This movie has heart and soul built into every scene as it details the birth of a Jewish boy born in Poland and migrant to Israel in later life. Wonderfully packed with archival photos and videos, the film is full. WOW. Great documentary.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 (Theatrical Release USA 2022)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.3|5.0 Starsìììì

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 takes its audience on a ride that is as good as the first production of Sonic the Hedgehog. The original cast reprises all roles. It’s often difficult for a movie to base itself on a computer game and deliver good entertainment but this film is an exception and delivers good entertainment. WOW. Possessing ultimate power seems much over-used in movies over the last several years, but does not overpower the originality, fun, and entertainment of this film. The story is sound and presents itself well. Good watch for Sonic the Hedgehog fans.

INTERCEPTOR (Video Release USA 2022)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.7|5.0 Starsììì

Interceptor needs stronger actors and actresses to carry the storyline. The movie starts well, but the fighting roles have not been assigned well and this failure noticeably detracts from the strength of the story. While Elsa Pataky has spunk, she performs at the average to good level as does her supporting cast. The movie needs a boost in presentation to push past the average rating. Watch for the excellent cameo of Chris Hemsworth.

THE INDIAN FIGHTER (Theatrical Release USA 1955)

Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.0|5.0 Starsìììì

The Indian Fighter
—simple 1955 Kirk Douglas western movie—runs with Walter Matthau and Lon Chaney Jr. It’s an interesting study of 1950 classic western content and the audiences who would be attracted to this writing style for entertainment. It’s an overall interesting watch that allows Douglas to drive the storyline. Good afternoon entertainment that could also run as good background at a party.

1917 (Theatrical Release USA 2019)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.3|5.0 Starsìììì

1917 sits among the best World War I films produced. While Hollywood usually focuses on World War II films, this movie becomes a real treat for the war movie fan as its focus is a time period not often produced within the film industry. The film easily becomes a must watch and creates good discussion material after viewing. Both actors, George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman earn their dollars with good acting and portrayal of World War I military personnel. Watch for cameo stars who make shorter appearances in the film—Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, and Richard Madden.

MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED (Theatrical Release USA 2012)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.1|5.0 Starsìììì

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted completes the Madagascar series quite well. The movie has lots of perks and encourages laughter with its comical antics and dialogue. The characters are deeply drawn and lovable. The animation is outstanding and interestingly presented. The timing in the story is particularly well done. The color, special effects,  and musical scoring add significant weight to the film’s quality. The voicing is highly professional and works like clockwork. The movie is a fun ride for a wide audience. It satisfies and has ability to remain viable for many years. It’s a good addition to the home video library.

3 NINJAS: KNUCKLE UP (Theatrical Release USA 1995)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.7|5.0 Starsììì

3 Ninjas: Knuckle Up—good, children’s martial arts movie—could employ better fight stunt scenes as it is obvious that the adult stuntmen are ‘helping’ the children fight them by deliberately falling and manipulating flips. But, it gets the entertainment job done and minimizes violence as this creates a softer approach. The story is simple and follows a straightforward approach to right wrongs to accomplish justice, a good message that echoes throughout the movie. This movie is the sequel to the first film, 3 Ninjas. Oddly, the third movie in the series, 3 Ninjas: Kick Back, appears before the second movie due to distribution complications, but the series can now be watched in order.  Adults will prefer the more sophisticated martial arts films such as those presented by Jackie Chan while this film absolutely works as a good children’s entertainment piece.

RETURN TO SPACE (Video Release World-Wide 2022)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.5|5.0 Starsìììì

Return to Space—Elon Musk documentary—works the idea of monetarily privatizing the space program while taking the audience on a private tour of one of his rockets docking at the International Space Station. The movie emphasizes his desire to put a community on the moon in preparation for later colonizing Mars. Good work for all involved and a good watch for the adult audience. The documentary has been well-organized.

MUNICH: THE EDGE OF WAR (Video Release USA 2022)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 4.1|5.0 Starsìììì

Munich: The Edge of War—keeps audience attention—has good storyline and backs itself with good acting. The two main characters seem to get lost so that a person may think they are one and the same until they meet face to face in a German conference room. From that point forward the story becomes easily understandable. Particularly notable are George McKay and Jannis Niewohner for acting skill. Watch for the treat of seeing Jeremy Irons acting as England’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. It may have been better to use make up to enable Ulrich Matthes to closely resemble Hitler. This would enable his good acting to have more power.

RISE OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: THE MOVIE (Video Release World-Wide 2022)

 Ben Meyers’ rating: 3.8|5.0 Starsììì

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie—interesting story with unusual animation technique—uses so much distracting animation technique that the rapid-fire flash of animation overpowers the story. One may feel at the conclusion of this movie, ‘What was that all about?’ and ‘Was any of it profound or important?’ The movie does not present the usual format of how the Ninja Turtle team interacts together. Children may enjoy this film while adults may find it rather boring at times throughout the movie despite good voicing.
