THE NEW LAND (Theatrical Release Sweden 1972)

The New Land—
a Jan Troell directed masterpiece—does not miss a beat in beautifully weaving the immigrants’ story from its trials to its joys, from its irreparable losses to its tremendous gains. Encore to the acting abilities of Max Von Sydow, Eddie Axberg, Pierre Lindstedt, Liv Ullman, and the rest of the cast. There are not many films that command the scope and quality that this film does so naturally, seamlessly, and with such finesse.
